We see the power and inclusivity of glitter.
It sparks connections, subverts traditional beauty standards, and blurs binary gender lines
Together we are leading a revolution to shine bright and #SHINERESPONSIBLY
OUR ORIGIN STORY
Saba Gray began developing BioGlitz in 2014, whilst running the product development department of Manufacture NY, a vertically integrated, sustainably focused, textile and design development hub based in NYC.
As a lifelong figure skater, Saba had developed a deep aversion to glitter because it was used as a way to present one’s self as properly “feminine” or “girly”.
However, after moving to New York and becoming involved in the underground fashion & arts communities, she experienced a new sartorial freedom that opened her eyes to the infinite possibilities of style. Glitter was no longer “girly”, but rather a genderless, universal tool for self expression. It could be punk, chic, funky, high fashion, pretty, scary, and everything in between.
With this new awareness, Saba began to bring glitter everywhere, sharing it with anyone and everyone who seemed like they could benefit from a little sparkle. Immediately, she saw the immense power these tiny particles possess to break down social barriers, cultivate connection, and encourage mindful engagement.
However, Saba’s background in sustainable fashion began to contradict her newfound love of glitter- a toxic microplastic. She knew there must be a way to create a sustainable alternative to these powerful particles, so she set out to discover a biodegradable glitter.
Fast forward to two years later, and BioGlitz was born.
